The Lowline Lab
Position: Site Coordinator
Company: The Lowline
Location: NYC
Year: 2016-17
The Lowline Lab was a long-term technical exhibit designed to test and showcase how an underground park would function. Built inside an abandoned market on the Lower East Side, the Lab included a series of controlled experiments and educational exhibits.
By the time I joined the Lowline team as the Site Coordinator the Lab had been built and running as a type of avant-garde art piece for a year. While many visitors were impressed by the beauty and ingenuity of the installation, an equal number struggled to imagine this almost empty warehouse, with only a few “house plants,” as a public park.
Over the next two years I worked with the project manager to re-brand and redesign the Lab as an educational facility and multi-functional public space.
